Instagram is another great way to display my work, however this does not need to be consider as professional as its a public social network. However, I am using my Instagram to display only artistic work, not personal events. In having this account it gives me the opportunity to follow industry artist, but also allows them to follow me. I have also used the brief description to provide a link to my professional website. Below is a screenshot and link to my Instagram page, reecieanimation

VIMEO
Vimeo is the main video sharing site I have utilised as it is often regarded as more proffesional than its main competitor YouTube. Graham Goldsworthy, an animator at Jellyfish Pictures explained how he could often overlook showreels on YouTube as he regards them as unproffesional. My Vimeo contains WIP shots, finished projects, my showreel and other Animation tests I have done in the past.

YouTube
Considering Grahams advice, I still use YouTube as a means to promote myself to a broader audience. Youtube is a good means to display your work, find other animators and easily and quilckly get feedback. I would avoid sending links of my Youtube videos to potential employers, and stick to Vimeo for a Cleaner, more sophisticated look.

Artella is the platform for making animated films, commercials, video games and virtual reality content collaboratively.
I signed up to Artella during my portfolio term to try and gain some industry experience by working with other collaboratists. I emailed 3 Directors who were looking for Animators, unfortunately each attempt was unsucessful but I will keep trying and actively looking for appropiate roles. Artella is going to be a great way to try and build my experience and knowledge. |
According to the PayScale website the average annual salary for an Animator is £23,712. However the website does state that experience has a moderate effect on income for the job. Most Animators move on to other positions after 10 years in the field. This salary is good for me, as my total annual salary was £19.088 a year. From my research I realise that a greater salary comes with experience.
The PayScale Website also estimates the hourly rate for an Animator at £15.00 an hour, which is great as mine estimated hourly rate is £10,50. |
A company that I have admired since I started University is Jellyfish Pictures. So when i began my research into salaries, I was keen to check how much a 3D Character Animator would earn with their establishment. There was'nt as much infomation as other sites but I did discover that on average that earnbetween 20 to 22 thounsand, which at my age and skillset, is above average.
